Explosion proof dust removal equipment: a professional selection guide for the powder chemical industry

In the powder chemical, fine chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, dust control is not only related to environmental standards, but also directly related to production safety. Resin powder, sulfur powder, raw material intermediates, and other materials often have flammability, explosiveness, and even toxicity. Therefore, the selection of explosion-proof dust removal equipment must prioritize "intrinsic safety" and strictly follow relevant standards such as GB17919-2025 "Explosion proof Safety Specification for Combustible Dust Dust Removal Systems" to build a comprehensive protection system from filter material to structure.

1、 Core foundation: Targeted matching of filter media

Filter material is the first line of defense for dust collectors to intercept dust. Scientific selection of materials is necessary for different characteristics of chemical powders

1. Flammable and explosive dust: Anti static filter material must be selected as the bottom line. By mixing conductive fibers into the filter material, the surface resistance value is ensured to be below 1 × 10 ⁸ Ω, thereby timely guiding away the static charges generated by dust friction and eliminating the risk of electrostatic spark ignition.

2. Acid alkali corrosive dust: It is necessary to use PTFE coated filter media with extremely strong chemical stability, combined with stainless steel or heavily anti-corrosion coated shells, to prevent equipment from being corroded and aged.

3. Dust under high temperature conditions: If the flue gas temperature is high, high-temperature resistant filter materials such as PPS, P84, or fiberglass should be used, and cooling devices should be used if necessary to prevent the filter bag from burning out.

2、 Mandatory requirement: complete explosion-proof safety configuration

For explosive dust environments, dust removal equipment cannot rely solely on a single means of protection, but must adopt a "combination fist" explosion-proof design, which is indispensable:

4. Explosion relief and explosion-proof devices: The dust collector body must be calculated according to standards and equipped with explosion relief plates to quickly release pressure in the event of an explosion; At the same time, explosion-proof valves are installed in the intake duct to effectively block the spread of flames and explosion waves to the production workshop.

5. Anti static and grounding design: In addition to the anti-static ability of the filter bag itself, all metal parts of the dust collector (including the shell, flower board, ash hopper, etc.) must form a reliable equipotential connection and be grounded. The grounding resistance is usually required to be ≤ 4 Ω to completely eliminate the hidden danger of static electricity accumulation.

6. Inert gas protection system: For high-risk dust with extremely low minimum ignition energy or high explosion index, an inert gas protection system such as nitrogen is also required. When the oxygen concentration exceeds the standard, inert gas is automatically injected to control the environmental oxygen content below 8%, eliminating explosive conditions from the root.

3、 Structure and Operations: Detail Design for Risk Avoidance

In terms of equipment structure design, it is usually recommended to use a circular cross-section for bag filters used to process combustible gases to increase the smoothness of dust flow and avoid excessive dust accumulation caused by dead corners inside. Meanwhile, the use of dry electrostatic precipitators and gravity settling chambers is strictly prohibited, as these two types of equipment can easily pose significant safety hazards.

At the daily operation and maintenance level, modern explosion-proof dust removal systems usually integrate online monitoring and warning functions for pressure difference, temperature, and CO concentration. Through the fluctuation of real-time data, operation and maintenance personnel can achieve a transition from "passive maintenance" to "active protection", and detect and eliminate potential security risks in advance.

The selection of dust removal equipment in the powder chemical industry is a rigorous systematic engineering. Only by fully understanding the physical and chemical properties of dust, deeply integrating anti-static filter materials, explosion-proof devices, and intelligent monitoring systems, can we truly build the first line of defense against explosions in chemical production. While achieving green emissions, we can also safeguard the safety production of enterprises.
